BCS has been granted a patent from the Republic of Brazil’s National Institute of Industrial Property for our method of biocide treatment for industrial applications, namely, mineral slurries and oil field applications. This international patent covers the method of treating mineral slurries to inhibit bacterial growth by adding an effective amount of sodium N-methyldithiocarbamate (a.k.a. metam) or methylammonium monomethyldithiocarbamate (MDTCMA). These chemistries offer more versatility in the biocide treatment package of slurries by addressing changing slurry formulations, regulatory constraints, slurry interactions, efficacy, odor, etc. The mineral slurry can be any type typically treated with biocides, including but not limited to the following slurries containing water: kaolin, starch, clays, calcium carbonate, or titanium dioxide. The patent also covers the improvement in methods of treating adhesives, coatings, and high viscosity suspensions to inhibit bacterial growth.
