Here at BCS, we’re always excited to support the next generation of scientists through hands-on learning opportunities. This summer, we’ve had the pleasure of working with Saxton Macinsky, a bright student who has been working in our lab.
Originally from Sandersville, Georgia — home to our plant and the heart of the kaolin industry — Saxton is already familiar with the significance of this region’s geology and its connection to our work. He is studying biology on a pre-med track at the University of North Georgia and additionally seeking a chemistry minor, making him a wonderful addition to the lab.
During his internship with BCS, Saxton has gained valuable lab experience and further developed his technical skills. He’s spent time learning and contributing across a variety of activities and procedures, with frequent involvement in running our dynamic scale loop, performing bisulfite-persulfate titrations, plating on chalk slurries, and conducting dispersant tests. These experiences have helped Saxton fine-tune his hands-on laboratory skills while also giving him a deeper understanding of the processes behind the work we do.
After his undergraduate studies, Saxton is looking forward to further studies leading him to the medical field. He is particularly interested in infectious disease and cardiology, with a future focused on hospital-level patient care and diagnostic medicine. Saxton has made great contributions to our research this summer and we know he has a successful future ahead of him.
